However, it is best to do some research before you visit a particular place. U.S. dollars can be exchanged anywhere. I have never tried to spend Canadian dollars directly at stores, hotels, etc. in Mexico. I would imagine that few businesses outside of resort areas frequented by many Canadians (Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, etc.) would accept them.John Mitchellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02671700028598526771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553768415285649790.post-48418498611961528872013-04-04T09:15:00.002-07:002013-04-04T09:15:00.002-07:00See yet some people say Canadian money is more exc...See yet some people say Canadian money is more excepted. It is so important to put the incidents of violence and crime in Mexico into perspective. The areas where there are big problems are very specific, and are not the main tourist areas, and many other areas in Mexico. I think, as a Canadian, I might be more scared to visit some parts of big U.S. cities than to go to some of the beautiful tourist areas in Mexico. The media needs to be more measured in their reportage of Mexico as a whole.Davidhttp://www.livinginsanmiguel.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553768415285649790.post-83252810380623511852010-09-28T22:11:02.074-07:002010-09-28T22:11:02.074-07:00In Nuevo Vallarta in August 2010 the Mexican banks...In Nuevo Vallarta in August 2010 the Mexican banks refused all Canadian cash and all Canadian travelers cheques--based on the stated policy, about a month old, that they would only cash US cash and US travelers cheques of 300.00/person/USD/day maximum. ATM's saved the day. We discovered one cambio--Sterling--in Puerto vallarta that was willing to accept Canadian currency for exchange. Also the bank of Nova Scotia agreed to accept it --IF you had a BNS/MXN account--I didn't.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553768415285649790.post-79353081104527727262009-07-20T13:24:47.313-07:002009-07-20T13:24:47.313-07:00Thanks for the info! The lesson to be learned is indeed to follow the laws of the land. Brenda lived in a drunken haze in Puerto Vallarta for several years, paying taxes to neither the Canadian government or the Mexican government, flaunting the law the entire time. She had no work permit to be earning any of the monies she collected in Mexico, so how could she possibly convince the justice system that she was "just a cook". It didn't fly. I hope she gets her life on track with some alcohol councelling now that Canada has bailed her out. I also hope she realizes how lucky she got off. Her former co-worker (the American lady from Portland) that Brenda "fingered" is doing her full time. Ironic.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553768415285649790.post-1183748068226433912008-06-08T10:59:00.000-07:002008-06-08T10:59:00.000-07:00It's nice to have visitors, but personally I prefe...It's nice to have visitors, but personally I prefer "muy tranquilo.''John Mitchellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02671700028598526771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553768415285649790.post-77364350331601048322008-04-27T09:38:00.000-07:002008-04-27T09:38:00.000-07:00Wow John, we had zillions of Canadians this winter...Wow John, we had zillions of Canadians this winter in San Miguel - the most ever!
