When to go to Mexico -- dry season or rainy season?

Most Canadians visit Mexico during the winter, which is no surprise given the cold and somewhat gloomy weather at home. November through June is the dry season in coastal Mexico and the most comfortable time to visit popular resorts such as Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. Humidity is low and the temperatures are comfortable at this time of year. However, there can be some real pluses to exploring Mexico during the summer rainy season: hotel prices can be much lower and resort areas are less crowded with foreign sun-seekers. On the minus side, hurricanes sometimes strike the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Mexico during summer and early fall.

The rainy season is my favourite time to vist Mexico's beautiful colonial highlands, which have a temperate climate year-round. It's usually bright and sunny in the mornings. Puffy cumulus clouds start forming around noon bringing late afternoon downpours that freshen the air and turn the sunbaked hills and valleys from brown to green.

Wow John, we had zillions of Canadians this winter in San Miguel - the most ever! From mid-December til the first of April. The streets are empty now and we are back to "muy tranquilo".....

It's nice to have visitors, but personally I prefer "muy tranquilo.''
